There are so many ways you can make a difference in another person’s life. Without needing to make a huge effort and you don’t have to go out of your way to change the mind of someone, alter their mood to a more positive state or even make them – if only for a minute – feel their own heart.
So many of us, of you and me, tend to live our lives down the same path as we always have gone.
Sure. The road winds, it got hills we need to concur and valleys that make us feel at peace. As any road ever traveled you pass cities never seen before, you meet people only to let them go, you search for the best direction when coming to a crossroad and you always do your best to make sure you make it safely to your destination.
The difference between us all is how we decide to travel. What we choose to look at, where we decide to stop and whom we choose to talk to. If we take our time figuring out what is right, if we choose to think twice before acting or if we merely settle with the easiest way to go - the safe road.
No matter the choice – it is your choice and you are the only one that can act around it.
You can be guided by signs, urges and people you meet a long the way and there is always someone you can reach out for. There is always a map close by or a gas station you can stop and ask for help if you feel lost.
Always.
It is just a matter of seeing. Of looking up. Of reaching out.
I´ve always been aware of the inner beauty of people surrounding me, but somehow i´ve never been as a attentive to the presence of them as now.
I´ve always adored our world, the magnificent nature we´ve been given – but never felt as conscious about it as now.
The insight that we are all together on this journey has been such an important discovery, and it has all happened in the past weeks. We are sharing this trip with faces that is not always familiar, with bodies of which you do not already recognize their scent and you are surrounded by accents new to you.
It is an astounding feeling to realize that you can actually look around and in to faces of complete strangers and not feel misplaced.
So.
With this new perception of life I decided to put the thought into action. I wanted to see if the smallest thing would make people open up. Smile at me – me being a perfect stranger in their eyes.
As I spent the past weekend surrounded by people I already know and thousands of ones i´ve never met before, it was a very suitable scene for this little mission to take place.
A festival. A place filled with characters from all over. All ages and all walks of life.
Perfect setting.
Especially when I looked at all these people and found so much shyness. Hard to explain but the feeling was so strong that everyone was together yet so distant.
Looking around I felt confusion between the energy of people because they did not know how to interact. It was a friendly state of mind, for sure, but if everyone would have had the knowledge that it’s so easy to connect to another person with small simple gestures I feel they would have felt lighter. More at ease.
Anyways.
Me and my new found mind wanted to change this. If possible.
In the fields flowers were growing. Not very pretty but purple and nice in its own kind of way. These I picked from its stem and decided to randomly walk around and give them to people.
One small flower.
From me, to them.
The reactions where brilliant. Just as I predicted.
The first look on their face was priceless because the instant confusion on why this girl is handing them a flower was written all over their face. Just to be replaced by a sense of happiness when they realized the meaning behind it.
A random act of kindness.
It is insignificant if you see it laying on the ground since it was not very pretty, as I said, but in this gesture their view of this tiny little piece of plant put a smile on their faces.
Something out of the ordinary, something that jolted their path they’ve decided to walk on, that they are trying to figure out.
A tiny little something that might change the way they already see things. An almost invisible gesture that maybe, maybe someday will make them act differently. That will make them look up and see things in another view. More visible.
They did not even have to say thank you. There was no need.
The appreciation I felt from their heart, without saying a word, was enough.
You can be friendly, you can smile and nod in appreciation but true kindness goes from one heart to another. From me to you. You to me.
One small flower.
A random act of kindness.
So easy to make someone smile with their soul.
